Urgent Help

If you, or someone you know, are struggling with your/their mental health, or are suicidal, you can find ways to access urgent help and support listed below.

Immediate risk or danger

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services.  

  • Telephone: 999

  • Textphone users: 18000 or visit Relay UK
     

Urgent help or medical attention

If you or someone you know needs urgent help or medical attention: 

  • Call 999 if you, or someone you know, are in immediate danger or are suicidal.

  • Go to the Emergency Department (A&E).

  • Make an emergency GP appointment.

  • If you live in England, Scotland, or Wales: contact 111 for medical advice using 111 Online, through the NHS app, or by calling 111.

  • If you live in Northern Ireland: contact your trust’s  GP out of hours service.

Mental health concerns

If you are concerned about your or someone else’s mental health, you can contact a mental health professional by calling 111 and selecting Option 2. This support can also be accessed using textphone services, British Sign Language video calls, or with a translator through the NHS 111 Accessibility Page.

Helplines and listening services 

Note: these services are delivered by other charities and organisations. You can find more information about them and their privacy policies from their respective websites.  

Samaritans 

Samaritans are there to listen to whatever you are going through, every hour of every day. There are alternative methods of contact available on their website. 

Shout 85258 

Shout are a free, confidential text messaging support service for those who are struggling to cope, which can be contacted any time, day or night.

Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) 

CALM are there to support anyone who is struggling with or affected by suicide or suicidal thoughts.

National Suicide Prevention Helpline UK 

National Suicide Prevention Helpline UK  offers a supportive listening service to anyone struggling with their mental health or who has thoughts of suicide. 

Mind Helplines 

Mind’s Helplines provide a listening ear when you don’t know where else to turn, and they can help you find specialist support if you need it.

Saneline 

Saneline offers an out-of-hours mental health helpline to anyone struggling with their mental health or supporting some else who is.

C.A.L.L (Wales) 

C.A.L.L offers a confidential listening and support service to those in Wales, and has received additional training to help best support those who are neurodivergent.

The National Domestic Abuse Helpline 

If you, or someone you know, is experiencing domestic abuse, The National Domestic Abuse Helpline is there all day, every day, for you to discuss your options. You can also contact them through the chatbot on their website.
